GASTRIC REVISIONS

Gastric revisions are non surgical procedures that are performed on patients who have previously undergone bariatric surgery but have experienced complications or have not achieved their desired weight loss. Two common types of gastric revisions are gastric sleeve revision and bariatric bypass revision.

Gastric sleeve revision is a procedure that is performed on patients who have previously undergone a gastric sleeve surgery but have not achieved their desired weight loss or have experienced complications. The procedure involves the removal of a portion of the stomach that was left during the initial surgery, followed by the creation of a new sleeve. There are several reasons why patients may require a gastric sleeve revision, including:

Insufficient weight loss: Some patients may not lose as much weight as they had hoped after their initial gastric sleeve surgery. This can be due to a variety of factors, including poor adherence to diet and exercise recommendations, hormonal imbalances, or insufficient restriction of food intake due to the initial sleeve size.
Weight regain: In some cases, patients may regain some or all of the weight they lost after their initial gastric sleeve surgery. This can occur due to factors such as poor dietary choices, lack of exercise, or the gradual stretching of the remaining stomach tissue.
Complications: Some patients may experience complications after their initial gastric sleeve surgery, such as acid reflux, gastric leaks, or other gastrointestinal issues. In these cases, a gastric sleeve revision may be necessary to address these problems.
During the procedure, the surgeon will remove a portion of the stomach that was left during the initial surgery and create a new sleeve. This can be done either by laparoscopic or open surgery, depending on the individual case. The size of the new sleeve will depend on the patient’s individual needs and goals.
