How it works
The deflated balloon is placed through the mouth with an endoscope under sedation, then filled with saline. Placement takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and there are no incisions. After roughly six months, it is removed the same way.
Who it's for
Orbera is FDA-approved for adults with a BMI of 30 to 40 who haven't been able to lose weight through diet and exercise alone. It is used together with a supervised diet and exercise program.
What to expect
Nausea and cramping are common for the first several days as your stomach adjusts, and we'll give you medication to help. The balloon program includes follow-up so you can keep the results after removal.
